Description of Services: Palliative Care Inpatient unit (12 beds) at Etobicoke General Hospital provides:

  • complex and acute pain and symptom management
  • psychological support to patients, caregivers and families
  • care and comfort at the end of life
  • admission direct from home to the inpatient unit for patients with advanced illness who are already registered with one of our palliative care physicians
  • support with discharge planning, including discharge home or other facilities
  • culturally sensitive care that respects the patient’s beliefs, values and preference

Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Adults 18 years or older * People suffering from incurable and/or life-limiting illnesses of a cancerous and/or non-cancerous nature

Supportive Palliative Care Patients referred for palliative care are those suffering from incurable and/or life-limiting illnesses of a cancerous and/or non-cancerous nature. Palliative Care is appropriate for patients in all disease stages, from those undergoing active medical treatment to those who are nearing the end of life. At all stages, the goal is to provide pain and symptom management thereby improving quality of life
